Waiheke's Coming of Age

Growing grapes and making wine on a remote island on the edge of the world demands a pioneering spirit. Alongside the founding grape growers of Waiheke Island we have a belief that great wines can be produced here. Wine’s that can sit alongside the best in the world.

“Man O’ War is without a doubt one of New Zealand’s greatest wineries in the making and one to watch.”

Robert Parker’s “The Wine Advocate

The Benchmarks

As the name Kulta pays homage, the ambition for these wines is to develop the culture and quality respecting of their ancestors. Grower Champagne, White Burgundy, Syrah of Hermitage and regal right-bank Bordeaux.

Whilst we like to taste and compare with these great regions, we’re working every year to further develop on our true individual expression of Man O’ War. The result is a set of wines that drink perfectly on release, and will reward cellaring for decades to come.

“Waiheke Island, home to one of the country’s best Syrah producers Man O’ War…New Zealand is second only to the Rhône in the consistency of quality it achieves.”

The Loved One

Our family’s love of fine wine dates back beyond the three decades we’ve been growing and making wine at Man O’ War. The Kulta Collection is a homage to our Finnish ancestors; where Kulta means ‘loved one’ and conveniently ‘gold’.
